Brooke Gaumer

I am currently a senior at Atlantic Collegiate Academy taking courses through Horry Georgetown Technical College. I see writing as an expressive way for an author to connect with their target audience on an emotional and/or logical basis. In just the first semester of ENG 101, I have seen many changes within the structure of my work. My final major essays titled, "Research Essay" displayed the most insight of what I have learned in this English class. Specifically, the framework of my sentences and paragraphs. Throughout the course of semester one, I have received both feedback from peers, and from my teacher. This allowed me to revise my mistakes, and prevent repeating them. I have learned the importance of aiming my work at a target audience rather than just readers of my work in general. This helps me create a tone, purpose, and helps me determine which rhetorical appeals to include. I also started using a technique for providing evidence and sentence structure called the "they say, I say" method. When writing an essay, I start by fully examining the prompt to ensure I cover each key point. Then I begin drafting a rough copy of my work. I continue by seeking feedback to gain new perspectives of how I can improve anything. I will then revise and polish every last piece I can. This portfolio will showcase four major essays, two short writing assignments, and five journals. Click one of the links below to see my work!
