About Me

Hello! My name is Brooke E. Gaumer. I am a 17 year old student at Atlantic Collegiate Academy (ACA). I am currently enrolled in three dual enrollment courses through Horry Georgetown Technical College. I view writing as an expressive way for an author to connect to their intended audience on an emotional and/or logical basis. In just the first semester of taking ENG 101, I have seen many changes within the structure of my work. My final and most recent major work titled, "Research Essay" displayed the most insight of what I have learned in this English class. Specifically, the mechanics of my sentences and paragraphs. Throughout the course of semester one, I've been given both feedback from peers, and from my instructor. This allowed me to edit my mistakes, and prevent repeating them. I have learned the importance of aiming my work at a target audience rather than just readers of my work in general. This helps me create a tone, purpose, and helps me determine which rhetorical appeals to include. I also started using a technique for providing evidence and sentence structure called the "they say, I say" method. When writing an essay, I start by fully examining the prompt to ensure I cover each key point. Then I begin drafting a rough copy of my work. I continue by seeking feedback to gain new perspectives of how I can improve anything. I will then revise and polish every last piece I can. This portfolio will showcase four major essays, two short writing assignments, and five journals. Click one of the links below to see my work!
